We are so saddened to let everyone know of Barbara Smith’s passing. She was such an incredibly caring sister, wife, mom, aunt, grandma, and friend. She was born and raised in Denver, CO graduating from East High School. She attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO where she met Jack Smith. They were married and moved to Basalt, CO in 1964. Jack’s great – great grandparents built the little white house they lived in until 1977. They built a new house, right next door and this is where they lived all the rest of their days. They had two children Carrey and Roger, who still live in the family homes. Barb spent most of her life taking care of kids in her in-home daycare. She retired in 2001 when Jack passed. She was so excited to become a grandma and used all of her previous skills to help raise Tyler and Parker (Carrey & Mike’s sons). Her next venture was joining the Eagle County Senior Center. There she made many friends and loved calling bingo! Barb overcame a brain aneurysm that nearly took her life. Thankfully that gave her family 17 more amazing years to make memories with her. She is preceded in death by her mother – Elizabeth Bourg, father – Louis Bourg, brother – Robert Bourg, sister in law – Maryann Bourg, and her husband Jack Smith. Family she left behind: daughter/son in law – Carrey (Smith) & Mike Sims, son – Roger Smith, grandsons – Tyler and Parker Sims, niece – Audrey (Bourg) Bunten, nephew – Robert (Rob) & Brenda Bourg, great nephews Adam and AJ Bourg. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on October 7, 2023 at the Basalt Middle School (51 School Street). The family can’t thank everyone enough for all of their support they’ve given during this difficult time.
