On Wednesday, March 6, our family said goodbye to our dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Patty Greene, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 79.
Patty was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1944 to Ervin and Denise Balk. Her family later moved to Henderson, Nevada. Affectionately known by all friends and her brother as Patty Kay, Mom grew up as a typical teenager. As her high school career drew to a close, Patty met a dashing young man named Jerry Greene, who was later to become the love of her life for 60 beautiful years. Patty and Jerry married soon after she graduated, and they moved to Southern California so Jerry could work as a carpenter. Soon they adopted a baby girl, Chandelle. Not long after that adoption, Patty and Jerry moved to Colorado which later became home to their growing family. They adopted 2 sons, Jerry Jr. and Thad, and made their living on the Western Slope of Colorado.
Patty was all things mom and was always her kids’ biggest cheerleader. She became a phenomenal cook and loved to share her creations with family and friends whenever she could. She is best known for her chili verde, prime rib, and Christmas cookies with the grands. She sewed clothing for her children when times were hard, and later moved on to quilts and placemats when things got easier. She was also never one to turn down a good crafting session. Mom’s heart was always bigger than the rest of her, and she touched many people in her long life. She will be dearly missed.
Patty is survived by her husband Jerry, daughter Chandelle May (Tony), son Thad Greene (Denise), brother Jimmy Jo Balk (Maryann), her beloved grandchildren Ellie, Cassie, Jackson, Heather, Athena, and Stephanie, great-grandchildren Bella, Odysseus, and Thor, and her bestie streetsister, Cathy Meinheit (Bill).
No services are planned at this time, but life celebrations will be held in Arizona and Colorado.
