John was born in Rifle, Co. to William A. Rogers Jr. and Veleta Jo Erickson-Rogers.
John grew up and worked on The Ranch through his high school years and off and on for a few years after. He started trucking in his early 20’s. He drove for City Market, Swallow Oil of Rifle and other different companies and even for himself for awhile. John retired from trucking on May 1st, and was getting ready to go to Australia for four months.
I found a stick up note on his desk, it was in his handwriting and said “Don’t cry for me after I’m gone, laugh and play and remember the good times we had.”

Jill Mollie Rich (Eaton), 82, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016. She was born on April 7, 1934 in Uravan, Colorado to Mollie and Bert Eaton. She was raised in the Rifle, Colorado area.
She worked for many years as a seamstress and partner in Rich’s Upholstery. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loyal, caring and loving wife and mother.
She will always be remembered with love by family and friends for her selfless and caring nature, sense of humor, and devotion to her family. She always had a warm smile to greet you with!
Jill is survived by her husband Jerry Rich, 6 children: MaeBelle (Larry) Linnemeyer, Debbie (Bruce) Daseking, Brian Rich, Frank (Shawna) Rich, Jill (Jhonny) Rich-Carmona, and Sherri Rich. She is predeceased by her son Eddie Henke. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Rainer (Elizabeth) Linnemeyer, Anneke Linnemeyer, William Daseking, Amy Daseking, Yidnekachew (Lilly) Antokhin, Tosha Antokhin, Zena Antokhin, Tsige Antokhin, Luka Antokhin, Ayalnesh Antokhin, Zion Rich-Carmona, Hunter Rich, and Avalon Rich. And lastly, her 2 great-grandchildren Willa Linnemeyer and Harrison Linnemeyer.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. The family will have a private memorial service.
Beverly Jean Marie Zanella was born to Joe and Angelina Ryan on April 1, 1936 at the Hopkins Hospital which was located at 8th and Bennett in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She went to be with Jesus on October 1, 2016 and gave him a big hug. Bev was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Angelina Ryan and her second son Thomas (Tom) Michael Zanella. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Zanella whom she married 60 years ago on June 2, 1956 and had five children, her four surviving children are Robert (Rob) Jay Zanella, Jean Marie Ewen, Steven Joseph Zanella and Christine (Trina) Jessen. She has eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Bev and her husband Bob were owner operators of the Buttercup Bakery in downtown Glenwood Springs from 1961 to 1982. After the bakery’s sale she worked at Alpine Bank serving her customers for 22 years, eventually retiring in 2008.
She remained active in her retirement years volunteering at St. Stephens Catholic Church and as a volunteer at Valley View Hospital where she was best known for her hugs.
Her services will be held on October 15, 2016 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1885 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A rosary will be said at 9:30 am with the Memorial Mass at 10 am. A reception will be held at the Rivers Restaurant at 2525 South Grand Ave. at Noon.

Our beloved H.J. Chee, husband, father, and friend, went on to be with Jesus on October 3, 2016. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He owned The Pit Stop in Glenwood Springs for 24 years and ran it with truth, honor and integrity.
Always wanting to serve and do his best for his employees and customers. His desire always was to leave people and places better than the way he found them.
He moved to the United States in 1970 from South Korea. At Los Angeles Trade Technical College he met Carmen Ramos and they got married on April 26, 1975.
They had two sons, Brian, born in 1978, and Kevin, born in 1984. He moved his family to Colorado in June of 1992. Brian now lives with his family in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kevin lives with his family in New Castle, Colorado.
His spirit now lives on in his loving wife of 42 years, Carmen, his son Brian and fiancée Jayde, his son Kevin and wife Danielle, his beloved granddaughters Paige and Megan, his mother Jung Hae, his sisters Anna, Yoonhee and Sanghee, and many other extended family.

Dwayne Louis Goad passed away peacefully October 8, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born March 22, 1936, to Lawrence and Dovey (Renshaw) Goad in Gunnison, Colorado. Dwayne married the love of his life, Virgie Franklin, on October 5, 1957. They just celebrated their 59th year anniversary. They have 3 sons. Dwayne loved spending time with family fishing, hunting and camping. He worked for Mountain Bell for 35 years. He is a Royal member of the Elks Lodge. Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Virgie Goad; sons Wendell (Kay), Allen (Debbie) and Scott (Suzi); brother Lawrence (Devota) Goad; sister Pat (Leland) Copeland; grandchildren Rebecca, Monica (Jon), Sandra (Terry), Robert, Katelyn, Jacob, Tawnia and Tania (Lee); and great-grandchildren Tori, Dylan, Gage, Seirra, Kristy (Rodney), Levi, Hunter, Emilee and Egen. Joanne L. Hilty, 86, passed away at her home in Carbondale, Colorado, on October 12, 2016, following declining health for the last four years.
She was born on February 26, 1930, in Fremont, Ohio, the daughter of Harold C. and Enora (Kieffer) Willey. She was married to Dr. Ted L. Hilty on June 7, 1952, at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, Fremont, Ohio. Surviving is her husband and sons Scott D. Hilty (Claudia) of Avon, Colorado, and Dr. Jack B. Hilty (Nancy) of Snowmass, Colorado. She leaves grandchildren Alex and Lauren of Avon, Colorado, and Max and Summer of Snowmass, Colorado. Also surviving are two brothers Richard Willey and James Willey of Fremont, Ohio.
Following graduation from Fremont Ross High School in 1948 she studied interior design and art at Pratt Institute and The Ohio State University. She left college to marry her husband before his senior year of dental school at The Ohio State University. During this she was employed as a technical illustrator at North American Aviation in Columbus.
Joanne returned to Fremont in 1957 where her husband established an orthodontic practice. She and her husband resided in Fremont until Dr. Hilty retired in 1994. While in Fremont Joanne was a member of the Coterie women’s club. She was active member and past president of the Ladies Association of the Fremont Country Club. In addition to golf she was an avid skier. Upon her husband’s retirement the family moved to Colorado. Since 1996 they have resided at Aspen Glen in Carbondale, Colorado.
Joanne was an accomplished watercolorist and pursued this passion throughout her life. She attended several watercolor workshops to further enhance her artistic skills. She exhibited at many shows and won awards at the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society shows, the May Show at the Toledo Museum of Art, the Ohio State Chapel show of local women artists and the Arizona Watercolor Society Show. In addition to printing she was an avid knitter and creator of needlepoint. At one time she owned and operated a yarn shop in Fremont.
Internment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont on Friday, October 21. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Keller-Koch-Chudinski funeral home in Fremont. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Carbondale Community United Methodist Church. A memorial reception will be held in Carbondale at a later date.
Golden LeGrande Bair, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Spanish Fork, Utah, on October 16, 2016. LeGrande was born February 10, 1933, to James Golden and Geneve Hogan Bair in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised at the Bair Ranch in the Glenwood Canyon outside of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He married Kathrine Joe-Ann Dungan, January 24, 1953, in the Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs. The marriage was later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. She preceded him in death, July 19, 2015.
LeGrande spent his life as a sheep rancher. He loved having his family with him and teaching them to love the ranch life. He loved his horses and his dogs. His dogs were his constant companions; he trained them and they loved to serve him in any way they could. He helped many young people by teaching them while they were at sheep camp. He had many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of his favorite callings was teaching the teenage boys about the gospel and to love the Lord. He enjoyed his time working in the Manti Utah Temple.
LeGrande was president of the Colorado Wool Growers Association. He was also nominated for awards for his efforts in conserving water on the Flat Tops. He taught many people, especially his children, to be good stewards of the land. He worked closely with the U.S. Forest Service and BLM to improve and maintain the land for both the sheep and the wildlife.
LeGrande is survived by his six children: Debbie Franks, Blountsville, AL; Sharry (Dave) Barton, Richfield, UT; Bruce (Inge) Bair, Meeker, CO; Tami (Paul) Skeem, Delta, UT; Tim (Annette) Bair, Monroe, UT; and Tom Bair, Pecos, TX; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with 4 more on the way; sisters: Bonnie (Leon) Moon, Gayle Phillips; and brother, Craig (Doris) Bair.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Judy Eklund and Vaniel Bair; and son-in-law, Michael Franks.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Monroe 1st & 4th Ward Chapel, 49 East 200 North, where friends may call from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery. “Niko” Nicholas Burton Botner passed away peacefully October 14, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1992, to Stacy Stanek and Brian Botner in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Silt in 1999 with his twin brother Ian Botner. Niko graduated from Coal Ridge High School in 2010. He went on and received an Associate’s degree in 2013 from Wyotech College in Laramie, Wyoming. He returned to the valley and recently worked at Alpine Tire and Berthod Motors as an auto mechanic. He was a loving father to his daughter Alice Botner, son and friend to all that knew him.
We will miss him dearly and have him in our hearts forever. Niko is preceded in death by his grandparents Lyle and Martha Botner, great-grandparents John and Josie Ruzicka of Grafton North Dakota, great-grandparents Leo and Florence Stanek and Michael and Vivian Knopik of Little Falls Minnesota. He is survived by his mother Stacy Stanek and father Brian Botner, his twin brother Ian Botner, his daughter Alice Botner, his grandparents Charles and Cheryl Stanek and his Aunt Maria Burnham.

Ethel Florence Ross (Skeeter) passed away October 14, 2016. Skeeter was born to Lawrence and Eva Ross on March 11, 1953, in Telluride, Colorado. She loved family, traveling, camping and most of all chocolate. She also loved participating in bowling, running, cross country skiing for the Special Olympics. She is survived by her brother, Dick (Judy) Ross and her sister, Lorraine Knapp, also relatives Aunt Ella Rose, Diane, Donna (Jesse), David (Beth), Elaine (Marvin) Taylor, Katie (Ross) Biorn, Debbie (Allen) Goad, Duane (Vaneta) Knapp, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Service will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rifle Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in Telluride in the spring.
Gerald (Jerry) Dwain Norvell went to be with his Lord and Savior with family by his side October 11, 2016. He was born in Colorado Springs to Wilfred and Dorothy Norvell February 15, 1945. Jerry became a Navy Seabee in 1963, after graduating from Palmer High School. In 1968 he married the love of his life, Darlene Robbins they enjoyed 48 years together. They have two sons, Mike and Chris. Jerry moved his family to Rifle in 1976. He spent many years as a land surveyor and truck driver before retiring earlier this year. He will forever be known as a generous, fun-loving, faithful man with a heart-of-gold. He will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Scott Alan Jones. He is survived by his brother, David (Rosemary) and family; wife Darlene; sons, Mike and Chris; three sisters-in law, brothers-in-law and their families.

Margaret McClanahan Ryan, 97, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2016, at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale, CO. She was born on January 14th, 1919, in Clinton, Missouri, to Marion Ross McClanahan and Lucy Margaret Lindsey. As a child she lived in Missouri and Boulder, CO. She graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1941 with a B.A. in French with minors in Spanish, English and education. This is where she met Rupert Myron Ryan and they were married in 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware. Together they shared the dream of raising a family in Boulder after the war.
She worked for many years as an administrative assistant in the Speech Pathology Department at the University of Colorado in Boulder and then in the Engineering Department as the assistant to the Associate Dean before retiring in 1990. She moved to Carbondale, CO, and lived a wonderful period of renewal and love for the last twenty-five years of her life.
She will always be remembered by family, friends and those who cared for her in her last years for her warm, compassionate and loving nature. She took it upon herself to become an advocate for staff and other residents at Heritage. Margaret’s life engendered courage, clarity of purpose and the ability to sustain the effort to achieve. She imparted these qualities to her children and loved them all her life. Conversations with Marg were always informative and fun. Her favorite topics were golf, sports, politics and anything to do with history. It was an afternoon ritual to find her listening to books on tape. The topic was usually historical.
Margaret is survived by her four children: Larry (Judy) Ryan of Denver, CO, James Ryan of Basalt, Kathryn Ryan of Denver, CO, and Nancy (Brad) Zeigel of Carbondale, CO. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Ryan, Amber (Mark Weiser), Trevor Ryan, Sean Ryan, Megan Babcock, Arick Zeigel and Alli Zeigel; and 3 great-grandchildren: Lily Weiser, Lucy Weiser and Wesley Babcock.

Valeria Johnson, 87, of Crystal River, Florida, passed away October 19, 2016. She was born November 10, 1928, in Maywood, Illinos, to the late Anton and Valeria Karre. She had moved to Crystal River 24 years ago from Colorado. She was a member of the Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club and the Red Hat Club, and was an avid golfer and excellent seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth, and brother, Rudolph. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Allen Glen Johnson; one daughter, Bonnie (Ronald) Radtke; two grandchildren, Jennifer Medeiros and Brian (Tamara) Radtke; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Logan, Gavin, Jackson and Alana.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29th, 10:00am at Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River. Gracie Aline Zancanella, (who was 73) of Glenwood Springs sadly passed from this Earth on October 23rd at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A Rosary will be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on October 28th: at: 9:30, and Mass will follow at: 10:00. Father Bert Chilson will be officiating. After the service both Gracie and her husband Buzz Zancanella will be put lovingly to rest together at Rosebud Cemetery. After the short graveside service the family would like to invite everyone to the Zancanella house (1240 Blake Ave) for snacks and reminiscing.
Gracie was born (Sept. 5, 1943) and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, by Arron and Rose (Young) Lavergne. She grew up on her family’s farm and had a love of animals and the outdoors. She belonged to 4H and The Iberia Saddle Club, and barrel-raced in local rodeos. She loved to read and ride her horses Jenny and T-Boy. In 1960 she graduated from New Iberia High School and went on to attend USL for two years. She was Medical Transcriptionist at Iberia Parish Hospital and for many doctors here in the valley. She met and married (April 16, 1966) the her love of her life Lawrence “Buzz” Zancanella in New Iberia, Louisiana, while Buzz was stationed there in the Navy. After his honorable discharge they moved back to Buzz’s hometown of Glenwood Springs to start their family. She loved knitting, embroidering and spending her free time with family and friends. Gracie was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, was a member of Catholic Daughters, St. Bridget’s, and Sole Mates hiking group.
She is survived by three daughters Rosemary Preheim, Christy and Annie Zancanella. Also survived by her son-in-law Steve Preheim and her granddaughters Maddy and Lexy, her brothers Jay (wife Sis), Guy (wife Teresa), and Perry Lavergne, her sister-in-law Eleanor Zemlock, and her four boys Scott (fiancé Sahara), Mike (wife Diane), Joe (wife Debbie), and Andy Zemlock. Along with numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins galore. She is preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Rose Lavergne, husband Lawrence “Buzz” Zancanella, mother-in-law Ruth Zancanella and brother-in-law Martin Zemlock.

Joseph Edward Llewellyn died in Glenwood Springs on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. He was born April 9, 1937, in Rifle, Colorado, to Rees Llewellyn and Grace Hoffmeister Llewellyn. He graduated from High School in Glenwood Springs in 1955 and served in the Marine Corps for two years. He hauled coal for Morrison-Knudsen (MK) from the Mid-Continent mine in Redstone before he started his life and health insurance business.
Joe was very active in the Glenwood Springs Rotary Club. He loved skiing and served on the Sunlight Ski Patrol at Ski Sunlight. He was awarded the National Ski Patrolman in 1990, he also loved fishing, traveling, working in his yard and soaking in the Hot Springs Pool. He was passionate about wood turning and sold his wood creations in several galleries around the area.
Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Kent, and step sons Paul Oldford of Plano, Texas, and Matt Oldford of California. He has three children: Lindsie Llewellyn Fagan (Dean) of San Antonio, TX; Trenton Joseph Llewellyn of Gypsum; and Travis Rees Llewellyn of New Castle. He has six granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons, all of San Antonio. He was the second oldest of four children. Older sister Dorothy Llewellyn Artaz (Hank) lives in Grand Junction; younger brother Lloyd Llewellyn (Mary) lives in Cardiff by the Sea, CA; Nancy Llewellyn Blanchard of Overland Park, KS, passed away in May of 2015. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jacqueline M. Gross, 80 years old from Carbondale, Colorado, passed away October 25, 2016. Jacqueline was born March 23, 1936. Jacqueline Marie Gross of Carbondale, Colorado, passed away October 25th, 2016 at the age of 80. Jacqueline was born March 23rd, 1936 in Callaway, Nebraska to Clark and Nolie Shipley. Jackie and her family moved to Missouri Heights where she attended Elementary School and graduated from Carbondale Union High School in 1954. She married Robert S. Gross the love of her life on April 7th, 1956 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. They were married 61 years. Jackie and Bob owned and operated the Gross Locker Plant which is still family owned and operated, they also raised cattle for many years. Jackie loved the ranching business as it has always been her way of life. Later in life they passed down the business and retired. Jackie had a kind heart and would always help needy or orphaned animals. She loved reading, bowling, sports, her children and watching her grandchildren grow up. She was also very active in the local county fair in which her children and grandchildren took part. Jackie truly was a kind sole, and loved many, she was also loved by many. She is survived by her husband Robert, four children Scott (Kristi), Rocky (Lisa), Lisa Varley, Tony (Jane), Sister-in -law Vicki Shipley, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Shipley, and oldest child Chuck. Funeral services will be held at the Farnum Holt Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood Springs Monday October 31st, viewing will start at 9:00am-10:45am with memorial service at 11:00am followed with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Carbondale, reception at The Orchard in Carbondale immediately following the burial.
