July 20, 1943 – July 20, 2023
Gary opened the Glenwood Springs Hostel in 1989, and ran it until he retired to Boulder in 2011. He was essentially an artist with a pilgrim soul, constantly creating and journeying in multiple dimensions. He served in Vietnam, and afterwards became a traveller, a painter, and a sculptor, living in Hollywood, but also in Europe, Asia and Africa. At the Hostel, his medium was people: he loved the relationships he crafted in Glenwood, sharing his home, his vast vinyl collection and his heart with friends from around the world. He will be much missed.
